anchlands views conservation as an important product of our ranch management practices. We approach each property from a holistic perspective, looking at the ecosystem’s health from a landscape-scale and then narrowing our focus to particular areas of concern. For instance, a portion of the Zapata was formerly used as a golf course. When the course ceased operation, the non-native golf course grasses were overrun by weeds. By implementing our prescriptive grazing programs in tandem with extensive monitoring, we are working to restore native grasses to the area. As always, our actions are informed by our own experiences as well as perspectives from ecologists, botanists, and biologists to build on our whole-system knowledge. The rehabilitation is ongoing, but upon completion the result will be a healthier, more stable, and more productive micro-ecosystem that in turn contributes to the health of the ranch and the valley as a whole.
